Our Best Doctor (Part 1)

I have secrets that I'm learning and becoming fascinated about. God created our "immune system." Something inside us is God's best doctor against germs and diseases. Do you know that while inside a coffee shop writing this, I'm inhaling into my nose and taking into my body thousands (possibly millions!) of germs from around me?  Then why am I not dead?  It's because of my built-in cell immune system. That's right, I have immune cells that kill the invaders to stay alive! ... The mother's milk contains molecules in its colostrum that provides immunity to a new-born baby ... If you'll look at the cows, how come they don't get sick despite their unsanitary environment and food?  They have super immune system! Cows actually have great colostrum too... The body indeed was created by God with self-healing abilities... It's similar to the spiritual life.  But that's another story. Let me share a bit about it next time.  I've to go.  Cheers!

False Saviors, Living Water

I read of a story of a plane that crashed into the ocean. A circle was formed in the middle of the ocean led by a US marine for all the survivors treading water. They did this so it will be easy for a rescue plane to spot them. Blazing hot sun. Days went by. The survivors were getting weary and thirsty. Marines were trained not to drink seawater no matter how thirsty. The US marine never did. But the other survivors were not as resolute. They drank the sea water and eventually died. When the rescue plane finally appeared, only the marine soldier and just a few were left.

What a picture of false saviors! Empty substitutes. Pain and problems leave a hole in our heart and soul. The ocean around us is a world that offers all sorts of sinful avenues of escape. The invitation is to drink the seawater of sin and not wait for the rescue of the fresh Living Water.

Leave false saviors. Let's all drink from the spring of Living Water.

"Why is my pain unending and my wound grievious and incurable? Will you be to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails?" (Jeremiah 15:18)

"Come all you who are thirsty, come to the waters ... whovever drinks the water I give him will never thirst." (Isaiah 55:1; John 4:13)

God's Steadfast Presence

Last night, I was in a restaurant with two wonderful brethren who suffered abuse and wounding in the family. During sharing time last night and also in our previous small group meetings in the church, they recognized God's grace into their lives. They resisted thinking of themselves in the murky, damaged light of their abusers. For truly, amid the unfaithfulness, deceit, and lies they suffered, their abusers were revealing their own nature. All that their abusers attempted to make them believe of themselves were possibly true of their abusers. If you are God's child, you are beautiful! Agree with God that you are "fearfully and wonderfully made." Carry the truth of your worth in God with you wherever you go.

Dr. Tappeiner Comes Home

I'm saddened by this week's news of the death of one of my seminary mentors, Dr. Daniel Tappeiner, at age 71. I worked with him full time before as one of the deans in our Asian seminary for about 5 years. I'd miss him but I'll see him in heaven!

I'm Running Again

This coming March 22, I'd be back to running again. Back in high school and college days, I'd run to train for varsity. This time is different. I'm running for life. Pray and cheer as I join thousands of others in a running race at the Fort Makati soon towards the close of this month. Get set, go!

Slumdog Millionaire

"Slumdog Millionaire" the movie recently became one of the most rewarded, Oscar-winning films of our time. Slumdog follows the lives of Mumbai slum dwellers Salim and Jamal. They belong to the world's 1 billion squatters. Salim & Jamal are fictional characters. But their story is very real life -- poverty, violence, corruption, hopelessness and hope. It reminds me of my pastoral and mission ministry over 15 years ago in the slum areas of Quezon City in Metro Manila. I ministered among the poorest of the poor of the city. It felt for me like the scenes from the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire. But the lives of those whom I ministered to were real, not a movie. I shared Jesus and His Word and love to the slum people, I walked past tiny shacks, "dog houses," and areas of narrow sewage -- each day, each night I visited them. I believe if Jesus is here with us, He'll visit those in slumdog areas, even live among them. I pray and hope that I'd be able to establish a new, multiplying work among them again with God's Inner Healing. Pray for me for this.
